Drone Laws

Since January 2021 the law on flying drones legally and commercially has changed. In the past to commercially operate a drone or UAV the operator had to have a permission for commercial operations (PfCO).

Due to changes in the law this is no longer required and has been replaced. Rowley Surveying has held a PfCO for over four years, paying a substantial amount for the training and the UAV it used. The one above is just one from a selection of drones that Rowley Surveying operated.

Rowley Surveying has substantial knowledge of operating drones from 250g to 25kg and will be remaining with its PfCO until its finally phased out in 2023. Although operating smaller drones now (Mavic 2 pro, Phantom 4 and the Inspire) please check with any operator you use on there experience and most importantly insurance.

Operators may have a small drone, a qualification but not the experience. Its not just about taking pretty pictures, but being safe, judgement of when to fly and mitigating the risk to others.
